FR164 Dixie Cutoff Rd s(u)
This little summit comes in
handy when trying to come up with gravel day
loop rides in the area. The canyon approaches
are points of interest in their own right.
FR164 is kind of a stark grassland shortcut
across cow country between two entrances to
the canyon of the Boise River. The road name
along the profile changes several times.

Approaches
From West. Cow Creek
Rd is the second most important connection from
US20 down to the canyon of the Boise River. The
profile starts at this point in the Boise River
Canyon. After traveling several miles on the
smooth perfect surface of this road to the
canyon, a ray towards the east announces itself
with the sign Dixie Cutoff Rd.
This road is much smaller, but a
relatively smooth surface seems to promise a
short cut to the other major Boise Canyon
entrance, Anderson Dam Rd. The road partially
keeps what it promises. The surface deteriorates
a lot for a while. But after that, a short steep
climb leads over a series of grassy hills to a
well defined summit
From
East. (described downwards). The steep
top soon seems to go through a ranch to meet up
with the paved Anderson Dam road at a angle
containing only a few degrees. The profile
continues on the Anderson Dam Road back down to
the canyon. The best part of this ride is the
last part of this decent down between he
volcanic caprocks, lining the canyon.
That decent can also be used for
other summit rides: for example: Pine -
Featherville Rd s(u) , US20 Castle Rock
s(u) , US20 Dixie Summit s(u)
