Pine Featherville Rd s(u)
aka Louise Creek Rd s(u)
This is a wonderfully
peaceful paved "lake to prarie" cycle.
Although the profile also contains a portion
of far less peaceful US20, in order to show a
bigger portion of the dayloop below. Following
sings on the road, you get the impression this
is the Pine - Featherville Rd, even if this
summit is south of both of these settlements.
My map labels this as Louise Creek Rd.

Approaches
From East. Heading
from the northern end of Anderson Ranch
Reservoir back to US20, CR61 is paved all the
way from this collection of campers and
supporting businesses known as Pine. There was
practically no traffic on this perfectly
surfaced and beautifully scenic sideroad.
Although, judging by the campers accumulated
around Anderson Reservoir, there must have been
traffic at least at the time when all these
camping trailers were towed here.
From Pine the road skirts the
lake, which makes for entertaining riding with
surprising uphills. There are several false
starts to the major climb. Surprise - the road
heads down to yet another inlet. The profile
starts where CR61 crosses the last bridge over
the lake. Once the climb finally starts, the
road seems to head for a minor gap in the prarie
hills above.
From the looks of it, the road
will slowly, but surely escape into nearby
higher, flat prarie land. Along the way some
astonishing nice views of the Boise Mountains
are to be had. At what feels like the top, the
road does finally cross into far stretching
prarie country. After meandering and
rolling around this far expansive territory,
bordered by a snow capped ridge in the distance,
the road reaches a point that is slightly higher
than the end point after the main climb.
From West. (described
downwards) Following the profile, CR61 parallels
US20 for a while before it finally merges onto
it. Here cycling becomes much less pleasant.
Traffic is fast and medium heavy. There is a
very narrow shoulder next to the rumble strip,
often with some additional pavement over it. On
US20 the profile traverses one more scenically
and historically interesting point, also the
highest point on US20 between Fairfield and
Mountain Home. Here US20 follows the course of
the old historic Goodall Cutoff. The road
descends between a few granite outcrops, left to
stand in wind swept desolation.
It is also possible to replace a
part of US20 including its summit point with
unpaved FR113 Castle Rock Rd.
